Georgia police have arrested the man accused of hitting and killing 42-year-old Dennis Skillman, who was riding his bicycle to work early on the morning of May 15, and then fleeing the scene of the fatal bicycle accident. Deputies arrested 35-year-old Christopher Provost later that same evening, and the Hephzibah man will face felony hit-and-run and felony first-degree vehicular homicide charges for the tragic death of the Georgia bicyclist. If you have suffered injuries in a Georgia bicycle accident, or if you lost a loved one in a fatal collision that you believe was caused by a negligent driver, consult our qualified attorneys at Rechtman & Spevak to explore your possible compensation options. You may have grounds to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit against the driver found at-fault in the accident, in order to seek fair and timely reimbursement for your losses.

Bicyclist Struck From Behind, Driver Flees Scene

Investigators have reported that Dennis Skillman was riding his bicycle to work when he was struck by a vehicle that veered off of Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta, Georgia. Skillman, who was wearing a reflective vest when he was hit from behind, rode his bike 16 miles to and from work at Precision Tune Auto Center on Gordon Highway every day. “He wore his bright green vest everyday,” said Skillman’s best friend. “He had lights on his bicycle, and if they went bad he went and bought new ones.” According to investigators, skid marks are visible on the road where deputies say a red and white Dodge pickup truck swerved off the highway, struck Skillman, and then sped away. Skillman’s family is having a hard time coming to grips with the tragic accident, especially because the 42-year-old was riding a safe distance off the road and wearing a reflective vest when he was hit.

Skillman died from the injuries he sustained in the devastating bicycle accident, which took place around 6:30 a.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, near Tobacco Road in Augusta. Although the friends and family Skillman left behind are happy that the driver allegedly responsible for the deadly hit-and-run has been taken in custody, the arrest does little to relieve the pain associated with his death. If you have sustained bicycle accident injuries in Atlanta, Marietta, or elsewhere in Georgia, and you believe another driver to be at fault, contact our knowledgeable lawyers at Rechtman & Spevak for legal help. You may be entitled to financial compensation for your injuries, medical expenses, and pain and suffering, which you can pursue by filing a claim against the allegedly negligent driver.
