Workers Exposed to Hazards On the Job
With $50,000 in penalties, the failure-to-abate citation was issued for failing to establish a hearing test program for workers exposed to high noise levels, a violation the employer was previously cited for in 2013. A failure-to-abate citation is issued by OSHA when an employer fails to address previously cited hazardous conditions, equipment or practices on the job. The serious workplace violations, associated with $5,891 in penalties, were issued by OSHA for not requiring workers to conduct routine safety checks of forklift trucks, and for failing to establish written instructions for disconnecting electricity from equipment at the facility while performing maintenance and service activities. A serious sasfety violation is cited when there is a considerable probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a safety hazard about which the employer knew or should have known.
Work Safety Violations in Georgia
The repeat safety violations, associated with $36,960 in penalties, were issued for the employer’s failure to establish a training program for employees exposed to high noise levels, identify pedestrian walkways in areas where industrial trucks were used, and develop and implement a safety hazard communication program. The employer was also cited for exposing workers to explosion and fire hazards due to combustible dust accumulation. Repeat violations are cited when an employer has previously been cited for the same or a similar violation of a workplace safety regulation at any facility within the previous five years. According to OSHA, Truss Components of Atlanta was previously cited for these same work safety violations at this facility in 2013.
