Injuries and Fatality Resulting from Single-Vehicle Collision

The Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services crew responded to the Georgia car accident around 4:45 pm on May 9, and found 28-year-old Guy Russell Railing, Jr. outside of his vehicle. According to a spokesperson for the Georgia State Patrol, Gordy Wright, Railing lost control of his vehicle while “negotiating” a curve, veering off the side of the road. Railing’s car then struck an embankment and overturned multiple times, ejecting the Georgia man from the car. The accident report indicates that a 33-year-old female passenger in Railing’s car was able to free herself from the vehicle and stayed with Railing until emergency crews arrived on the scene. The passenger was then transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where she was treated for her car accident injuries. Railing was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for treatment, but he eventually succumbed to his extensive injuries.

According to Wright, the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation, in order to determine the cause of the fatal accident. Guy Railing’s death resulted from a single-vehicle accident, which are typically assumed to be caused by the negligence of that driver, possibly due to distracted driving, drowsy driving, speeding or other factors. However, many single-vehicle accidents in Georgia are actually caused by the negligence of an unknown motorist, who may have made a sudden lane change, sudden stop, or another unexpected action that forced the innocent driver to react quickly to avoid a collision. In many cases, the innocent driver’s evasive action results in his or her vehicle leaving the roadway, overturning, or striking another object, such as was the case in Railing’s accident.
