A serious hit-and-run car accident in Thomas County late last month left seven people injured, and police believe alcohol may have been involved in the collision. However, since the at-fault driver fled from the scene and wasn’t caught until the morning after the accident, he can’t be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. If you have been injured in a Georgia car accident with a suspected drunk driver, or if you lost a loved one in a DUI accident in GA, contact our reputable attorneys at Rechtman & Spevak today for legal help. You may have grounds to file a personal injury or wrongful death suit against the person determined to be at-fault in the accident, in order to pursue financial compensation for your injuries, medical bills, and pain and suffering.

Suspected Drunk Driver Fled Scene of Accident

The car accident in Georgia took place at about 9 p.m. on December 20, as Richard Carter and six other passengers were traveling northbound on U.S. 19 in Thomas County. According to troopers with the Georgia State Patrol, a 2008 white Ford pickup truck driven by Howard Curtin McMillon was traveling on Midway Church Road and allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 19. Reports indicate that McMillon T-boned Carter’s 2006 Town and County minivan, and then fled the scene of the accident on foot, turning himself in to police the following morning. Carter and all six passengers in the minivan were transported by ambulance to Archbold Memorial Hospital in unknown condition, following the hit-and-run accident in Georgia.

According to Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Jeff Culpepper, “There was obviously alcohol involved [in the hit-and-run accident]. However, [McMillon] could not be charged with driving under the influence because he left the scene and wasn’t caught until the next morning.” Culpepper says that McMillon is facing numerous charges in the accident, including hit and run, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to report an accident with injuries, no insurance, open container, and serious injury by vehicle.
